  1. Founding of the Heinrich Kopp company

The chronicle of the Heinrich Kopp company began in Reinheim (Odenwald) in 1927. The small, special factory established there mainly produced switches for export. The market demands both in Germany and abroad necessitated a rapid expansion of the product range, which is why Kopp kept adapting to the needs of its customers.
  2. Relocation to Sonneberg (Thuringia)

The increased demand for space led to the relocation of operations to Sonneberg (Thuringia) in 1934. During this period, plastic parts were used for the first time. Thanks to their outstanding insulating properties, they were soon increasingly manufactured and used by Kopp. Before the war, the company exported up to 85 percent of its products, mainly overseas.

Despite the difficult conditions during the war, the company managed to defend its position and even to expand, with up to 500 employees bearing testimony to this. At the end of the war and during the expropriation without compensation in the Soviet-occupied zone, the fate of the company appeared to have been sealed. However, entrepreneurial activity then led to a rebuilding in Kleinblankenbach in Kahlgrund.

  3. Kahl am Main

After further locations in Alzenau and Schöllkrippen, the decisive step was taken in 1956 with the purchase of the premises in Kahl am Main and the start of construction of Kopp’s own production facilities.
  4. Founding of Österreichische Kopp Ges.mbh

Founding of the Österreichische Kopp Ges.mbh subsidiary in Dornbirn in Austria, in order to serve the local market directly to maximum effect. Due to very successful activity and rapid growth, relocations became necessary, first to nearby Lustenau and then to the Aigen site in 1980. From Aigen, the Austrian market and various eastern European countries were served and supplied with goods from the logistics centre.
  5. Founding of the production plant in Tunisia

The focus at the new plant is on the manual production of complex solutions.
  6. Kopp in Kaplice

Founding of the Kaplice production site in the Czech Republic. System products in the areas of switch programmes, socket strips and device surge protection filters were produced at this location.
  7. Hildburghausen

In 1992, a further state-of-the-art production facility was built for the newly developed distributor installation devices product line in Hildburghausen (Thuringia).
  8. Kopp expands to Hungary

Our subsidiary in Hungary was established in 1993. The Hungarian and Romanian markets were served from the site in Vecsés.
  9. New logistics centre in Kahl am Main

The construction of a high-performance logistics centre at the main facility in Kahl opened up the possibility of finding solutions to meet individual customer needs quickly and flexibly. A state-of-the-art distribution system enables several thousand shipments to leave the premises every week.
  10. International orientation

The takeover by Actuant Corp. from the USA further strengthened Kopp’s international orientation.
  11. Acquisition of Dresco

  14. Kopp Europe

Within the context of its strategic realignment, Actuant consolidates its electrical products segment under the umbrella of “Kopp Europe” and all European activities are centrally coordinated and controlled from the headquarters in Kahl am Main.

In the course of location streamlining and consolidation, Kopp relocates production from Kaplice (CZ) to Messadine, Tunisia and concentrates its switch production at the Kahl am Main site.

In line with the “Kopp Europe” strategy, “Österreichische Kopp Ges.mbh” is renamed “Kopp Austria GmbH” and the electrical products business of the Dutch subsidiary DRESCO is stepped up and harmonised under the name Kopp Benelux.

  15. Core business and innovation

Since February 2011, Heinrich Kopp GmbH and its affiliated subsidiaries have belonged to palero Holding.

The objective is the further profitable growth of Kopp in the traditional fields of business, the electrical wholesale trade, the industrial and OEM business and the DIY store and mail order business, in the core countries.

  18. 90th anniversary of Kopp

In 2017, we celebrated our 90th anniversary! Over the decades, Kopp has continued to develop as a manufacturer of electronic components. Our portfolio has constantly evolved and been expanded to include new solutions for our customers. The events of the last two years in particular have created new synergies, economic opportunities and competences. Our core areas of industry, electrical wholesale and OEM have achieved significant growth.

Kopp has been manufacturing electrical installation materials at its plant in Tunisia for 30 years, mainly by manual assembly. At the beginning of the year, the storage and production area was almost doubled to accommodate the necessary capacities.

  19. Founding of the new „Energy & Home Automation„ division in autumn 2020.

With the new division, Kopp is closing the gap between energy applications and Home Automation and the Smart Home and, as so often in its company history, is taking on a pioneering role in the sector, because until now there have been few to no complete solutions in this very promising future market. The decisive advantage for electricians and solar installers in using Kopp: Complete solutions from a single source – from PV modules to inverters and storage to e‑charging stations, integrated into a comprehensive Bluetooth-based Smart-Home system and thus holistically energy-optimised.
